three plus three does not EQUAL six (2)

unlike me, many informed citizens may know who the "Jena Six" are and what happened on the campus of Jena High School in Louisiana in the fall of 2006. something that they may not know, however, is the other story that fails to be broadcasted by the media. this story involves the white student (Justin Barker) who was jumped and knocked unconscious by six black students (know as the "Jena Six") who were initially (and unreasonably) charged with attempted murder. it was common knowledge amongst the students of Jena HS that Barker had taunted, threatened and directed racial slurs towards several black students. There is also evidence that Barker had pulled a shotgun on some of these students at a local gas station weeks before these horrendous incidents took place. I am not excusing the white or black students of Jena HS that were involved in these violent & hateful crimes; however, the racial tension that exists amongst students and community members in Jena, LA is a serious concern. Ultimately, individuals need to realize that they need to settle/accept their differences by taking the time to talk it out vs. taking arms or using force to settle personal scores. This is where teachers, administrators, counselors and parents need to step up in their respective roles.
